Our history

Over 30 years of raised floor expertise

What began in 1992 in an old joinery workshop in Herne has grown into one of the leading raised floor companies in Germany.

Founded in Herne

Hans-Werner Brenner and Günther Breuing found Bredo Doppelboden GmbH. The first line of business: control room floors for industrial plants.

Name from the founders + "Doppelboden" (raised floor)

Expansion into northern Germany and the Rhine-Main area

Bredo grows beyond the Ruhr region: with project managers on the ground in northern Germany, we oversee major projects from Hamburg in person. Shortly afterwards, a second base of operations follows in the greater Frankfurt area.

Frequently asked questions

What you should know about Bredo

Bredo has been designing and installing system floors since 1992 — with our own team and over three decades of hands-on experience across industry, administration and specialist applications.

Our headquarters are in Herne in the Ruhr area, with project managers on the ground in northern Germany and the greater Frankfurt area; we're able to deliver projects nationwide. Our main focus is the north-west of the country. For major projects and special situations, we're also active in neighbouring countries.

Our range of services spans from refurbishing a single switch room to delivering complete large-scale projects with over 30,000 m² of raised floor area. Our customers always come first — we're glad to support you reliably on both larger and smaller construction projects.

We're proud of our diverse client base — our largest clients include energy companies, insurers and grid operators. We're just as pleased to work with property developers, construction companies, electrical contractors, public sector clients and mid-sized end customers.

Yes. We refurbish existing floors including energy-efficiency upgrades — for example through insulation, sealing against airflow losses in data centres, or replacing inefficient floor panels in switch rooms. This can significantly reduce cooling demand and operating costs, without interrupting ongoing operations.

A raised floor consists of individual floor panels, removable at any time, resting on height-adjustable pedestals — the void beneath is fully accessible for cables, services or climate control equipment. A hollow floor, by contrast, is cast in situ and contains services within embedded ducts; it's more cost-effective but less flexible afterwards. We design and install both systems and advise you on which variant best suits your building's use, load class and life cycle.

Typical build heights range from 70 to 600 mm — depending on what services need to run beneath the floor. Load capacity ranges from Class 1 (approx. 2 kN point load for office areas) to Class 6 (over 9 kN, e.g. for data centres and control rooms). We size the floor to DIN EN 12825 and match load class, fire protection and covering precisely to your intended use.

We regularly deliver control room and data centre floors with ESD protection, high load classes and documented fire performance — including support from independent inspectors where required.

Yes, we offer maintenance contracts, repair call-outs and as-built documentation. Even after 20 years, we can still supply matching spare parts for many of our earlier projects.
